Hospital Transportation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
I do not have transportation to get to the JFK - Muhlenberg Campus or to JFK Medical Center. What transportation options are available to me and my family?
There are three new free transportation programs available to meet the needs of area residents: a shuttle bus and medical taxi service for patients who require transport to JFK Medical Center and taxi-voucher service for hospital based mental health, obstetrics and other patients who require transport to Trinitas Hospital
Can I choose to go to another Hospital?
Transportation services are limited to JFK Medical Center, JFK - Muhlenberg Campus and -- for mental health, obstetrics and other patients -- Trinitas Hospital.
Patients who seek healthcare at other facilities are responsible for providing their own means of transportation.
Who is eligible to use the Hospital Transportation Services?
Medical Taxi and taxi voucher services are available to all area residents who have to go to the hospital for scheduled non-emergency visits (tests, treatment/procedures, doctor’s appointments) and are unable to arrange alternative means of transportation.
The shuttle bus is available to patients, as well as family and friends who wish to visit a patient at JFK Medical Center.
Does it cost money for using the shuttle bus, medical taxi service or taxi-voucher service?
Transportation services are offered FREE OF CHARGE, although fees may apply for missed medical taxi appointments.
When and how can I access the Free Shuttle Bus Service?
The Free Shuttle Bus Service runs continuously during designated hours between the JFK - Muhlenberg Campus main entrance and the JFK Medical Center main entrance,
The hours of operation are Monday through Sunday, 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm., 7 days a week.
How far is JFK Medical Center from the JFK - Muhlenberg Campus?
JFK Medical Center is 5.5 miles from The Muhlenberg Campus.
What should I do in case of a medical emergency?
If there is a medical emergency, it is important that you immediately call 911 and request an ambulance.
I have to go to JFK Medical Center for a scheduled outpatient or inpatient procedure. How do I get there?
The shuttle bus is available to patients and visitors who have to go to JFK Medical Center in Edison for non-emergency services (tests, treatments/procedures, doctor’s office appointments) and are unable to arrange alternative means of transportation. No appointment is necessary.
The Medical Taxi service is available for patients who require door to door transportation and cannot use the shuttle bus. Medical Taxi appointments can be requested when you schedule your appointment at JFK Medical Center.
I am pregnant and was told by my Neighborhood Health Services Corporation mid-wife or obstetrician to give birth a Trinitas Hospital. What transportation services are available to me?
The Free Taxi Voucher Service provides curb to curb transportation to and from Trinitas Hospital for Neighborhood Health Services Corporation obstetrics patients who require non-emergency medical services only.
A Taxi voucher can be obtained through the Neighborhood Health Services Corporation in Plainfield. To schedule a pick up, please call 908.753.6401, ext. 1801.

I require inpatient mental health services at Trinitas Hospital and do not have means of transportation. How can I get there?
The Free Taxi Voucher Service provides curb to curb transportation to and from Trinitas Hospital for patients who require non-emergency hospital based mental health services.
A Taxi voucher can be obtained through Trinitas Hospital.

How do I obtain vouchers for use with the Free Taxi Voucher Service?
The Free Taxi Service is available only to Neighborhood Health Services Corporation and Trinitas Hospital patients who seek non-emergency obstetrics or mental health services at Trinitas Hospital. Please make the necessary arrangements with the Neighborhood Health Services Corporation or Trinitas Hospital to obtain a taxi voucher.

The JFK Shuttle and Medical Taxi services are wheelchair accessible.
When and how can I access the Free Medical Taxi Service?
The Free Medical Taxi Service is available Monday through Sunday, 6:00 am to 5:00 pm to area residents by appointment only. Please request this service when you make your appointment at JFK Medical Center.
