The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine treats patients of all ages both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Offering access to the full range of health care and emergency services available at Muhlenberg, the department is staffed by a team of licensed and/or registered rehabilitation specialists, including a physiatrist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists and audiologists. Staff are trained in CPR, attend mandatory continuing education programs to maintain a high level of care delivery, and lecture on such topics as sports injury prevention, work injury prevention and back care.
The department features an audiology room for hearing evaluations, a model home environment for training in activities of daily living, and a fully equipped whirlpool room to help relieve pain, improve circulation, clean wounds and provide therapeutic exercise. In addition, special technology enables speech pathologists to perform barium swallow testing, and state-of-the-art isokinetic exercise equipment assists therapists with muscle strengthening and restoration of mobility.
Through Solaris Health System, patients can also access the world-renowned
JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute in Edison. The facility offers advanced rehabilitation programs and services found at only some of the largest medical centers around the country.
