Nuclear Medicine
(908) 668-2285
The Department of Nuclear Medicine performs numerous imaging and therapeutic procedures, all of which use radiopharmaceuticals with low radiation, administered orally or through intravenous injection. Studies test the function of such organs as the kidneys, the heart and the lungs, as well as the hepatic, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and skeletal systems. They also help determine the location of tumors and abscesses and enable the diagnosis of cardiac and gall bladder disease, metabolic disorders, infections and cancer.
The department is staffed with full-time, licensed nuclear medicine technologists and board-certified nuclear medicine physicians who are available for consultation with colleagues. State-of-the-art camera technology includes single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for three-dimensional imaging and variable detector positioning for superior cardiac imaging. Computerized equipment allows for quick reporting of test results.
