For more than 20 years, the Hemodialysis Unit at Muhlenberg has helped people with kidney problems lead normal lives. During hemodialysis, blood is mechanically pumped through an artificial kidney machine where it is filtered and then returned to the body. Home and peritoneal dialysis programs are also offered. The unit takes a team approach to care, with physicians, nurses, dietitians and social workers joining together in treatment planning and administration. A free support group for hemodialysis patients, their families and friends meets monthly.
