Critical Care Services
(908) 668-2228
For patients with acute, life-threatening illnesses or injuries, two full-time critical care physicians, along with resident physicians and nurses trained and nationally certified in critical care, provide the complete spectrum of medical/surgical critical care services 24 hours a day. Highly qualified pulmonologists, cardiologists and other subspecialists are available for consultation.
The 48-bed Critical Care Department is divided into three units consisting of a Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a Medical/Surgical Step-down Unit and a new, modern, Cardiac Care Unit which includes cardiac step-down. Step-down units are used for patients who no longer require intensive care, but who do need more medical attention then is administered on a regular hospital unit.
Sophisticated technological capabilities include continuous arteriovenous and venovenous hemofiltration and dialysis for patients with renal failure; state-of-the-art mechanical ventilators for patients with respiratory failure; and intraaortic balloon pumps for patients in cardiac shock.
