Compassionate Care for
Breast DiseaseMuhlenberg's Breast Health and Mammography Center combines the most advanced technology for detection of breast disease with an understanding and compassionate approach to treatment. Accredited by the American College of Radiology, the center is staffed by female technologists certified in mammography, working under the supervision of a female medical director. Screening and diagnostic mammograms are offered, as are ultrasound exams, magnification views, needle localizations and aspirations. Should a biopsy be necessary, the most modern biopsy procedures, stereotactic core biopsy and ultrasound core biopsy, provide women with safer, less costly alternatives to surgical biopsy.
While 80 percent of all breast lumps are benign, an experienced staff of physicians stands ready to help women who face the diagnosis of cancer. Nurses who specialize in the treatment of patients with cancer back these physicians. In addition, dietitians, social workers and physical therapists become part of the patient's support team. On-site radiologists review diagnostic mammograms immediately during a patient's appointment time.
The staff at the Breast Health and Mammography Center is as committed to prevention as it is to detection and treatment. Instruction in breast self-examination and literature are provided. One-to-one counseling is available along with educational materials for any woman needing information. In addition, members of the staff regularly address women's and civic groups about breast health.
